Issue with discount on item with tax

by gsmiley007 » Wed Jul 26, 2023 5:05 am

I'm having issue trying of a discount code that will match the tax.
The item is $20 without tax.
So my tax is 4.99% and i have a discount code for 4.99%, but the values don't match

It still seems to calculate the discount on the total with tax instead of without tax

Thanks

Discount calculation is based on subtotal which in your store includes tax. So use the price incl. tax for discount calculation. I think the dIscount should be then 4.75%.

maybe i don't understand how this works. If i select the based discount tax on price excludes, I thought that would mean that the discount would be based on the pre-tax value. I was thinking of codes for "save the tax" if your tax is 15%, and you have a 15% discount code it should the original price when you check out. That's how i thought the discount excludes taxes would work if you included tax in your price.

If you use the discount option on subtotal it applies on subtotal.

Are you talking about this? It was set already to subtotal.

Yes.
I'm sorry, I can't help you further with this. It's a math question. Discount on order subtotal applies on subtotal. If your subtotal includes tax, the discount will be applied on it.
The option "Base discount tax on prices excl." in the ot module has nothing to do with this question.
See description:
Only affects stores showing prices incl. tax and mixed orders including products with different tax rates.
It's complicate to explain and it's not what you request.

ok thanks, wish there was an order entry that had both subtotal with and without tax. So you could calculate the discount on the subtotal with/without tax

It could be addressed in the ot discount module to optional do what you wish. But it would require a mayor rewrite and maybe it would need to add a new type of discount or discount option in admin and the database discount table.
