I've tried converting the PayPal 2.0 to php 5.6.4 to extent of my knowledge (not much) and it still fails to install.

Thanks, yes we're painfully aware that we need to upgrade and it will be the very next step. But for now I need the biz back up and running. My first thought was also to find out why the App stopped working. There's nothing in our logs but a -1 response from the server with a general failure message...
