Re: Soooo Quiet in Here

Hi 8-)

Been here since @burt started converting osC to Bootstrap way back ...

Shop owner, a DIY, must control everything, kind of guy. Not a developer, but willing to hack the core to do what I want things to do.

Re: Hypothetical Question - Addons

It is possible to have in (the admin screen of) an add-on the ability to include update history of the add-on, and a link to get the latest version. BrockleyJohn has included this in his USPS shipping paid add-on ... Screen Capture - 2026-08-07.jpg The notice in the admin links to his web site, expl...

Re: Near Instant Alerts if your shop goes down (Would you use this?)

FWIW, years ago I used an outside service that would periodically test my site and report whether it was down and out. I can't recall the name of the service and it wasn't instance....it would query the site every 5 or 10 minutes or so and send an email whenever there was a failure. Google offers t...

Re: Login layout

(If I may suggest ...) IF you have an existing shop, and IF you have Google analytics running, check to see what your customers use to access your shop ... desktops, laptops, or phones. And, what resolutions your customers are using. I say this because in my shop, over 95%+ of my customers are acce...

Re: No Core Changes - A different perspective

First, I want to thank everyone that participated in this discussion! It is generally accepted that "no core changes" is a good thing, and that if a shop owner wishes to edit core files (of which I have been guilty), than they assume any compatibility issues with "well written" a...

Re: No Core Changes - A different perspective

Question: to achieve that `wow` that hook must simply `plug in` to core code with 100% predictability. Fair? Absolutely! And, is there any way to un-install a hook, short of just deleting all of the files initially uploaded? Maybe include a batch file with the code that deletes all of the new files...

Re: No Core Changes - A different perspective

In my opinion, " no coding needed " is so much closer to your position. This is what I thought far earlier in the thread and tried to make you see - framed as a `simple` question - it wasn't some devious trap. If you re-read the thread, that question is an off ramp for you to take advanta...

Programming Programming is entering 'data' into pre-defined fields ... VCR -- time, date, channel, duration (remember those?) Oven -- temperature, time Customer -- Fname, Lname, address, phone, email, ... Product -- Part #, name, description, weight, cost, ... Coding Coding is writing (or editing) ...

Re: No Core Changes - A different perspective

1. "No programming necessary" Is this the same as "No coding needed". Is "programming" and "coding" the same thing? While there probably is a dictionary definition difference ... When I "set" my oven to cook at 350°F for 30 minutes, am I not "p...
