Confirm Age to enter shop

In Denmark (and many other countries) it is required for a shop to have some system to avoid selling certain good to people below a certain age.
This guide is for England and Wales, but a lot of the points apply to Denmark as well, so I guess they may for other places too.
Anyway, I have made a very simple hook that generates an overlay over the entire screen, forcing the visitor to either confirm or leave the shop.

When a visitor confirms, it sets a cookie with a life-span of one year, meaning they don't have to confirm every time they visit your shop. This means that it is very minimalistic and focused on customer experience rather than the responsibility one could take to avoid selling things to under-age people, but it's better than nothing, and it has been approved by the Danish department for that kind of stuff as sufficient. As far as I can think, the cookie is a functional one, so adding this hook shouldn't force you to have the "agree to use of cookies" pop-up, at least in the EU.
It's packaged with the Zipur Bundler, so you can install with that or the Installer, or you can simply ignore the file "update.php".
Of course, feel free to alter and share any improvements or thoughts you may have.

I like the idea of this sort of hook, but think it would be more practical if it only appeared on those products that are not to be sold to underage customers. We have some sharp products, such as craft knives and blades, where we have a disclaimer on the page that we were told by trading standards in the UK was sufficient.

I can see where the hook could be used though.

Yes, for sure. Not good enough in Denmark, but for countries that allow it, this would be less invasive.
It ties somewhat into the discussion here as well, as I would expect a "Buy" button on a product-listing would be a no-go most places, if you only show the warning on product_info.
The pop-up from the hook could be placed in a product_info module that only outputs when the product is a type that should not be sold to minors. The shop it is made for sells alcohol and tobacco primarily, so there was no reason not just to let it be the first thing people see.

Some other notes:
I used JS to activate the pop-up and set the cookie, as I didn't want to disturb the customer more than necessary with the pop-up. This also means that the hook I've shared is more about avoiding a fine from the government than it is about the social responsibility.
If it is for the sake of social responsibility rather than just avoiding a fine from the government, the pop-up should probably be based on the session rather than a cookie that is valid for one year.
In PhoenixCart, it would be possible to exclude all products that are forbidden for minors for anyone that didn't confirm to not be a minor. Alternatively, the buy-button for those products could just be disabled, or you could even just disable the shopping-cart button that proceeds to checkout, and give a warning that they should either be of proper age or remove the products that requires a certain age. Any of these things would be way better, if you only sell a few products forbidden for minors.
Anyway, it would probably make sense to add an array to the language-file with pages this pop-up shouldn't disturb, such as info.php, as there is no reason to withhold the information you may be sharing from minors.
