Last time I updated my website the database was the hardest bit to transfer across, and I am assuming that its going to be the same again.
I need to have a trial run on transferring the database from my old 1.0.9.1 site to my latest test site running 1.1.0.7. Am I right in saying that its a case of exporting the old database, remove the configure sections in the sql and then upload what's left to the new site overwriting what was there, then work through all the version updates checking for sql changes.
Or is it going to be easier to copy the current live database and rename it, point the test site to this database, remove the configure sections and replace with those from the test site, and then carry out any changes so it could easily be reverted back so the test site could still work in the database stuff fails.
I will keep a record of all the changes to make it quicker and easier when carrying out the final sql transfer.

Re: Best way to transfer database from live site to new test site
I update from a not fully 1.0.0.3 (somewhere between Bootstrap and this version) to 1.1.0.5 on september, the change don't was very traumatic hehehe.
I think the worst part was find the old core code modifications that add or modify things on database, at first time all looks ok, but never works fine at the first time hehehe,
It hasn't been a big problem for me because my store doesn't sell much, so I wasn't losing a lot either. I understand that for a site with high sales volume, making the switch is a more serious matter.
Good luck with the migration.

Re: Best way to transfer database from live site to new test site
Looking through the updates there does not seem to be that many changes to the database. Most of them relate to the configurations table so I assume as that is copied from the test site they will be no need to apply all those as they should be done already.
I will give this a test run this week all being well and let you know how I get on.

I'm burying myself in admin side changes, because the thought of transferring my OSC 2.3.4 site that has been running since 2011 to Phoenix 1.1.0.6 terrifies me.... getting cold sweats just thinking about it! - quick, back to admin mods....

I was like that a few years ago when I transferred my OSC2.3.4 site across. Believe it or not it all seemed to go well. I usually test update it first and keep a record of all the changes needed to make it easier when its done for real.Mort_Lemur wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 7:42 am I'm burying myself in admin side changes, because the thought of transferring my OSC 2.3.4 site that has been running since 2011 to Phoenix 1.1.0.6 terrifies me.... getting cold sweats just thinking about it! - quick, back to admin mods....
