Well, after spending the day migrating to php 7.3 (a good idea regardless) the OLD PayPal 5.0.3 started working again. Magically, not because of anything I was doing.
Did my support tickets with PayPal get them to reconnect the plug they had pulled this weekend?
Will we ever know?
Neither PayPal have responded to my enquiries about the matter.
In the meantime I can accept payments again, and I am now on php 7.3 with only minor hiccups.
I will still be finishing the migration to the new PayPal Module since it uses the new REST API (more modern and secure) and I am so close, but less of a rush now.
I will also be upgrading the shopping cart asap, but again, less of an absolute fire now.
