The Addon is available as a download for all versions 1.0.8.4 - 1.1.0.0. They do not work on 1.0.7.15.
However, I have a download in my archive for the Addon that I have just tested and working on a 1.0.7.15.

How can I prevent fake accounts from being created?

In our experience, a good hosting service helps to stop it.
These hosts have Cloud Server with CDN, WAF with Bot & DDoS Protection built in:

This forum was getting many fake accounts per day until we changed hosting to 20i.
We haven't had one since the change.
