Re: Different VAT rates for EU Countries

Thanks Robert and Matt for the clarification. I thought EU tax was complex.... :-)

I have it all setup now, as soon as I understood the system it all went pretty fast.

Looked up the VAT rates for EU at:
https://europa.eu/youreurope/business/t ... shortcut-8

Next, I added TAX Zones for all the different percentages (each percentage gets one zone).
Then, I added TAX Rates and linked these to the corresponding TAX Zone.
Last, I added the EU-countries to the corresponding TAX Zone.

The above may help someone also who is setting this up.

By the way, I did it all manually since I think my country id's gor mixed up by adding and then removing some again.

HTH.

..and now imagine you would like to have a fixed price that stays the same no matter what tax rate. would that even be possible to do technicaly?

I see your point.

My shop will not have the equal prices for every country. Mind that Luxembourgh "only" has 17% VAT, and Hungary is at the top with 27% VAT.

I can see several reasons to have variable prices.

i'm just asking because i have that EU Tax regulations for a little longer already. it is like that for some years for digital goods and services. and i have some selfmade special core code changes on an older oscommerce shop to make stuff like that possible.. product price = product (0% tax) + surcharge (xx% tax) and let the xx be different per EU country but keep the surcharge fixed.

would be nice to finaly be able to do stuff like that with Phoenix and without touching the core code ;) i guess it might be possible somehow now, but not with standard Phoenix alone.

This is only within EU countries, and to my latest knowledge the UK is not a part of the UK anymore :-)?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I cant even figure out an easy way of adding all the different VAT rates for each EU country.
As I understand things as from 1st July things are changing here in the UK and taxes can be taken at the point of sale so there is no delay when the order arrives at the destination country. That way the customer does not have to pay any further taxes before the parcel is delivered. Leaving things as they currently are, so no VAT on the sale could cause delays in order deliveries as any taxes will need paying by the customer before delivery to the customer. Extra charges could then be applied to the seller should the customer refuse delivery and a return is needed.

Yes you are correct indeed.

So you will need to pay tax in the country that is shipped to.

Is all the hassle worth the few orders? Just asking?

You are right. I posted elsewhere about this and the choices so far is to leave things as they are and let the customer pay the duties and taxes as an extra, hence my question in another thread about having a pop up message or something similar if a customer gets to the checkout stages and they are from within the EU.

The other option is to remove all the countries from within the EU so they cant purchase anyway.

First option is the favourite, but could cause more problems from customers that order but don't pay the duties and the product needs to be returned.

I saw something the other day on a foreign site that said something to the effect that "return goods due to custom charges not being paid will NOT be refunded" - I'm not sure how legal that would be but I can see it as a deterrent
Current Store is now running 1.0.9.0 - php 8.2.18
Now working on taking a short rest :D - php 8.2.18
