Addon Updates

Post by raiwa »

Resume of my Addon Updates schedule rules and policies, which should answer questions and requests which have been repeatedly posted:

I’m maintaining 42 addons. It is not possible and does not make sense to update each of them for each Phoenix point update. My goal is to get them ready for the major Phoenix releases which at this point will be Phoenix 1.0.9.0.

The only exception is the Spanish language package which is updated for each Phoenix version.

I’m updating meanwhile some of them following these preferences:
1. Commercial addons
2. Most used addons
3. Addons which update will last more for future Phoenix updates

Please understand that an addon update means not only the fix of displayed errors and broken functionality. Behind the curtain it means:
- update all coding to new Phoenix standards, which ensures future compatibility
- coding is a constant learning process. I often discover during updates things which can be coded in a better, more efficient, more stable, easier way.
- sometimes new features are added or obsolete features are removed
- installation instructions, update instructions and change logs need to be updated
- sometimes new screenshots are required
- packing and uploading to 2 places and updating info

Meanwhile I’m interested in:
- Error reports for the Phoenix versions the addons are flagged for
- Error reports for higher Phoenix versions IF possible solutions are provided
- New feature suggestions which may be interesting for the majority of users

I’m less interested in:
- Error reports for higher Phoenix versions than the addons are flagged for WITHOUT giving possible solutions
- Compatibility confirmations for higher versions. Users do often just test the features they are using in their store.
- Feature requests for specific needs which are probably not of interest for the majority of users

I’m always ready to update any addon as a commercial job outside the above schedules.

It's good to state this clear Rainer!

What You might want to add is why not all software does not work with all releases. Then the reader has a very good general explanation that goes for all developers and all Phoenix versions in general.

( By the way; I personally *do* understand the issue :-) and I fully support your statement)

This may be better explained by the lead developers. See:
