Google does not see sites

Post by trophy »

It seems to me that Google does not recognise the OLD OSC or the new Phoenix.
I have had an OSC site for some 10 years and a new Phoenix for 15mths.
When I do a google search sites do not come up.
I have many hundreds of products .

Obviously not the case - just Googled Phoenix Cart Ecommerce and phoenixcart.org is number one which is made with Phoenix Cart.
Just copy the URL of your webpage from the address bar - then paste it into Google with either site: or info: in front of it. If it returns the webpage in the search results, it is indexed.
Search engine results for your site will be a different matter. Poor results can often be because of poorly written content in product titles, descriptions etc.

Do you use Google Search Console?

Do you have XML sitemaps?

Do you have meta descriptions for your products and categories?

I launched a site just over a week ago and the google bot is all over it daily.

Meta Description is good to have so users can read them on SERPs but Google announced in September of 2009 that neither meta descriptions nor meta keywords factor into Google's ranking algorithms for web search.

Sitemaps might be good for some very large sites with bad internal linking but are not otherwise necessary as long as everything can be found by navigating from index.

What have you done in those 10 years to get your site to show?

Try doing a google search for any of your products by entering the product title into the search. If you have well written product titles it should show. Grab the first line of text from your product description and enter that, and your site should show. If they don't show near the top you have work to do.

Sign up for Google and Bing webmasters tools, enter a bit of information, add sitemaps and leave it for a few weeks to do some work, and you should soon be able to see how your site is performing. Once you have a few results you should be able to use a search engine to search how to improve things as there is lots of advice from so called SEO experts . I tend to only believe things posted from Google about how to get your site listed on Google.

SEO needs a lot of work to get a site to rank well on any of the search engines. Whilst Google and others may just find your site, you have to give them a bit of a hand. We rank for many products on the first page of searches, many times in the top position, so it can be done.
