SEO & Product Attributes

Is there a way to overcome a product with multiple attributes with respect to SEO or is it preferred to make a separate page for each product with a separate attribute.

So product 'A' has 10 distinct attributes.
One page using product attributes in admin

or

Same product 'A' with 10 separate pages to individualize the attributes?

SEO is becoming a real PIA

I think that this is going to depend on the searchability of the product attribute. For example, if your products are DVDs, it would be possible to make the title a product attribute. So the product might be "Clint Eastwood DVD" with a title option with possible values like Breezy, Firefox, and Unforgiven. This is probably going to be bad for SEO, as people are highly likely to search by title. So it's almost certainly better to make each title a separate product.

Another possible option would be gift wrap color, possible values like blue or pink. Very few people search by color of gift wrap, so that would be fine as product attributes.

Clothing color is somewhat in the middle. It's not as obvious a requirement as title, but still there are going to be people searching for "blue shirt" or whatever.

As a quick rule of thumb, you might consider whether you would keep track of stock separately. For gift wrap, you don't have to track if the product can be wrapped in blue or pink. It makes more sense to wrap on demand. So that's an attribute. For title or color, you would want to know if you ran out of the blue shirt or the Unforgiven DVD. Because chances are, your customer who orders a blue shirt won't be happy with a pink one. Etc.

We've asked ourselves the same question before.
I don't think there is a 'one size fits all' (which would solve one attributes issue!) answer for all shops so shop-owners would have to decide what suits them with regard to their products and their customers.
I did a quick google search with 'seo one product with options or multiple products' which gives some results that provide insights to enable you to make your own decision.
