Product components

Afternoon,

Most of our products are made using various components, at the moment we use a spread sheet to build these components into a product and give us a cost/sell price.

I'm considering moving this into my Phoenix store and having a product components page, similar to the attributes page, it will have columns for component name, unit of measure and price (possibly qty as well*). Then on the product page it will have a tab for selecting the components and the qty of them to be used in the making of the product. Once all components and qty's are selected it generates a cost and suggested sell price.

Has anyone done anything similar? Would people use it if I was to build it and make it publicly available?

*as products are made to order I may consider tying this into the product qty

Good idea.

It sounds as if its works in reverse of the older 'Product bundles' addon that Gary made years ago. (no idea if that is still available I have not looked). That allowed a product to be created using separate components or products from within the store.

Kind of yes, the difference being that the components are not available to purchase seperately.
