I have been working on a test site for a while now and it's getting to the stage where I need to trial convert the current stores 1.7.0 11 database up to the latest version.

I created a copy of the current database and i had a go at updating it using @raiwa sql saved data and everything went as planned and appears to have worked.

I then upload the sql created from the test database for the two configure files from the test website.

I then changed both configure files to point to the newly created database and everything seems to have gone to plan. I can access both the test store and admin and after a quick test things seem to be working. The only things that are not showing are all the images as they are not in the test sites image folder but the ones I have uploaded do show.

Can someone confirm that what I have done is all correct and the right way to do things before I start the whole process again after shutting down the current store so nothing in the database can change.

You could add the following to your "test" images/.htaccess if you'd like to test all images from your live store without having to move/copy them for the test:
Changing "www.mylivesite.com" above to the url of your live store with images. Of course when you launch the site, you should remove this as it redirects all image requests to another URL. I find this helps when migrating a site for final testing. (you may need to adjust the regex above depending on your image naming conventions)

As for the other steps, I use my Migration tool to move sites, so I can't speak for Raiwa's SQL Saved Data tool and I have never used it.

@zipurman Thanks for that. I was trying to use your updater but I could not add anything into a php.ini file as the hosts don't allow it, so was waiting for a reply from them on how to do it as I was getting some warning message.

With a bit of a play I did get your code for the htaccess file to work.
