Install FAIL owing to obsolete PHP

Post by glenlivet »

I am setting up an e-commerce site for myself and after reviewing the various cart apps out there I decided to with CE Phoenix. My install attempt failed owing to the fact that Phoenix Cart won't run on PHP newer than 8.0. My hosting
service came with PHP 8.2 installed and my control panel will only allow me to roll back to PHP 8.1. Tech support at my hosting provider informs me that PHP 8.0 went into "legacy" in 2019 and refuses to roll me back to 8.0 for all the obvious reasons. As a 100% Linux shop for 20+ years I understand that Phoenix Cart is open source "freebee" software that lives on the generous support of the user community. However in 5 years and 2 PHP versions I would have thought the developers would have revised the software to run on the newer PHP version(s).
Is there a work-around for this issue or will I just have to pick a different cart program?

Well, thanks for setting me straight on that however it doesn't solve the original problem with PHP and Phoenix Cart and I'm pretty sure I'm not the Lone Ranger here...

What problems are you having running on 8.1? I have a development site running on 8.1 and as far as I can tell it works perfectly.

I'm on 8.3 and it seems solid, some minor bits in the error log which the developers are working on, but no "show stopping" errors or bugs. What error message(s) are you getting?

I notice that you previously posted back in 2021, so you must have already used Phoenix and know that it is a solid piece of software.
