Upgrading from v1.0.8.0 - DKIM SPF and DMARC problems

Post by Tom »

Hi I'm upgrading from a V1.0.8.0 shop by doing a new install on the same server and it is all working apart from the email which I can't get to work. All the settings are the same as the old shop but still no joy.
I would say on an out of the box shop to encourage new users should have that functionality. I have a 15 year old OScommerce shop also that I need to upgrade, but I need to have confidence that I can get Phoenix with email functionality to work straight out of the box.
If anyone can advise help would be appreciated.

When you say "I can't get it to work", what exactly happens?
No email received?
White Error screen?
Errors in hosting error_log ?

What version are you moving to? v1.0.9.0? 1.0.9.6 ?
Where are you going?

All this will make diagnosis easier.

Presumably, 1.0.9.6?
Presumably notification e-mails?
Then go to Admin>Configuration>E-Mail Options>E-Mail From - set to your store e-mail address
There will be a Security Check Alert on Admin Dash in next release to alert to that.

Sorry for not providing the full information.
I have a V1.0.8.0 shop with not many products about 50 which takes orders payments and sends notification emails.
Rather than upgrade I should have said do a new install of v1.0.9.6 which I have done. It takes payments creates orders but the notification emails are shown as customer notified but they emails are not received.
If a contact us email is sent to the shop this shows as success the email is received.
The email set up in cpanel can send and receive mail but not through the shop.
As previously stated all the settings are the same as on the functioning website. They are both hosted on the same server.
Is it the Latest web server error log messages or the catalog directory error log you need?
Thanks to Burt and Heatherbell!

If a contact us email is sent to the shop this shows as success the email is received.
Which notification emails? The order status update notification (sent from admin)? Or the order placed notification? If the order placement, does the customer receive notifications? Or the shop owner?

If Contact Us is working, then the shop is almost certainly configured correctly for emails.

If the customer receives an order placed email, then that is working.

If the shop owner is not, then there likely isn't a Send Extra Order Emails To set. Copy the settings for that from your working shop.

Hi Heather,
The store email has been in place since the start in Admin>Configuration>E-Mail Options>E-Mail From - set to your store e-mail address. - and I'ved checked it's spelt correctly. Thanks for the suggestion.

Admin/email options and My store email addresses, are completed with send emails set to true.

Hi Ecartz
A new store 1.0.9.6 is set up I can take orders and receive payment.
The contact us page functions with a number captcha , I receive the sent emails from the contact us page.

The Modules/notifications are all set to on/enabled the customer and the store owner are both not receiving a copy of the three notifications.

Tools/ send emails says emails have been sent to subscribers but non are received.

I can send emails directly to My Cpanel store email and reply back from the cpanel. So could it be Cpanel issue?

Thanks again

You are absolutely certain?

This needs to be an email address for a correctly set up inbox.

EG, if your shop is www.xyzshop.com, the email address could be info@xyzshop.com
You would need to ensure that you have set up a working info@xyzshop.com inbox via cPanel.

If Contact Us is working, then the Email From is correct and the store owner email should work.

It could be an SPF/DKIM problem for the customer email. The store owner may be using a different client that isn't checking SPF/DKIM. Changing the Email From might work, but I would think that fixing SPF/DKIM/DMARC would be a more direct solution. It's possible that one might need to change the Email From to something where one controls the SPF/DKIM/DMARC configuration.

It could be a missing Send Extra Order Emails To problem for the store owner email.

Other than that, there could be a fatal in the email template that is blocking the notification from working. That would break both order emails.

Hi Burt I have checked the emails numerous times, but read a post from Zipurman earlier so have already sent off to my hosts to enable what he said. Waiting to hear back from them.
"- Send from a domain you own (not @gmail or @yahoo)

- DKIM and SPF must be in place

- DMARC policy in place

You should get your server admin to make sure this is in place ASAP for you."
Thanks Ecart as an email returned mentioned
host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [142.251.167.26]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:
550-5.7.26 Your email has been blocked because the sender is unauthenticated.
550-5.7.26 Gmail requires all senders to authenticate with either SPF or DKIM.

Thanks to you all for taking the timeto help me ove this forward.
I will keep you informed of the progress.
Thank you Tom :+1:
