1.0.8.7 Shop Upgrade / PHP Upgrade 7.4 > 8.3

Post by loop »

hi all

I have a question, I am currently running 1.0.8.7 in the shopsystem and with php 7.4

What is the best way to proceed if I want / have to change to PHP 8.3. Should I just change PHP version to 8.3 (does this work with the store 1.0.8.7?) and then get everything running with 8.3 and as soon as everything is running upgrade store version from 1.0.8.7 to newer version

or what is the best way to proceed? if both are to be updated?

thankz!

I'm fairly sure that PHP 8.3 won't work with store versions before 1.0.9.1. There were changes made in 1.0.9.1 for compatibility with changes made in PHP 8.1. So update to 1.0.9.1 first and then update the PHP version.

We've only just started talking about making changes incompatible with PHP versions before 8.0, so 1.0.9.1 (and even 1.0.9.10) should work fine with PHP 7.4 (or even earlier versions like 7.0).

ok, so the plan is:

1. shop update to 1.0.9.1 (with same php)
>check that everything works

2. thenn php update to 8.3
>it should still work the shop with same version 1.0.9.1

3. Upgrade shop to newer version (optional)

right?

Yes, we've done that with success (but going to PHP 8.2) though sometimes it is easier to start from scratch with a clean install. We have found there is not a 'one-size-fits-all' answer, it depends on all extensions, addons, modifications etc. that you have.
The most important note is to triple check first, that all extensions, addons, modifications etc. that you have are compatible with the Phoenix Cart and PHP upgrades.
Also best to do all this on a staging/test environment first.
