Agentic Commerce - AI shopping

Concept

Is to allow an API to run alongside your existing shop, enabling `things` (that could be internal admin things, or external services) to use it as appropriate.
For example, imagine this;

Someone is on CHatGPT and asks "Order me a box of 12 apples".

ChatGPT reads your shop API, loads up a cart and says to the person "certainly, here is your cart pre-filled ready for you to checkout {link}".
This type of shopping will only get more and more popular.
AI will herald the end of "normal" Search Engines, I predict within quite a short time-frame.

What I need, from anyone who is capable and/or interested, is to get involved.
I'm almost certain that we (phoenix/developers/shopowners) do not want to be left behind.

Help move Phoenix forward if you can.

Google's releasing it this week in the UK apparently - the option for search without results, just an AI answer

The rewrite rule needs to be

Code: Select all

RewriteRule ^v1/(.*)$ core/router.php [QSA,L]
to match the case of the file

Just got offered my first AI mode search. Still has ads (surprise, surprise) no organic results:

Thx for posting this - as far as my crystal ball goes, it can only see AI searching getting ever bigger.

We perhaps need a hard-core community effort over the next few months to try to get an API up and running, so that shopowners aren't left behind in the "normal" search engine result pages. Unsure how to do that, maybe if anyone interested enough took one piece of the API jigsaw puzzle and made it their own (obv with the intention to share to others!) that might work ? That github is public and ready to receive any PR's that anyone wants to make.

I'm not saying that API I have shared is, in any way, great. I am certain that things could be done better but it is, at the very least, a start of something.

Traditional Shopping (PhoenixCart Example)

1. Manual Browsing:

- You visit a PhoenixCart-based store, browse categories, and click on products.

2. Manual Selection:

- You read descriptions, compare prices (maybe by opening multiple tabs), and decide what to buy.

3. Manual Checkout:

- You add items to the cart, enter payment/shipping details, and complete the purchase.

This is a human-driven process—you do all the work.

Agentic Commerce Version (AI-Powered Shopping)

Now, imagine an AI shopping agent integrated with PhoenixCart (or acting as a layer on top of it). Here’s how it changes:

1. AI Does the Browsing & Selection

- Instead of you searching, an AI agent:
-- Knows your preferences (e.g., "I need budget-friendly wireless earbuds").
-- Scours the PhoenixCart store (and other sites) to find the best options.
-- Filters out scams, checks reviews, and ensures compatibility.

2. AI Negotiates or Finds Discounts

- The agent might:
-- Automatically apply coupon codes from its database.
-- Chat with the store’s AI (if supported) to request a lower price.
-- Wait for a price drop if it predicts a sale.

3. AI Handles Checkout & Logistics

- Once you approve (or if set to auto-buy), the agent:
-- Fills in your saved shipping/payment details securely.
-- Tracks the order and handles returns if needed.
-- Even reorders when you run low (e.g., "You’re out of coffee—should I repurchase your usual brand?").

Here’s a mockup scenario of how Agentic Commerce could work for a shopper using a PhoenixCart-based store, with an AI shopping assistant handling the process:

Step 1: User Initiates the Agent

You (the shopper) open your AI shopping app (e.g., ChatGPT, a dedicated agent, or a browser extension) and say:
"Find me a wireless gaming mouse under $50 from abc123.com."
Step 2: AI Agent visits abc123.com (which just happens to be a phoenix cart)

Logs into your account (with permission) or visits the store as a guest. Scrapes/search the product database (via API). Filters products by (eg):

Price (<$50)
"Wireless" + "Gaming" tags
Your past preferences (e.g., avoids brands you dislike).

Step 3: AI Presents Options

The agent replies:

"I found 3 options on abc123.com:

Logitech G305 ($45, 4.5/5 stars) – Best for battery life.
Razer Orochi ($49, 4.3/5) – Lighter, but pricier.
SteelSeries Rival 3 ($40, 4.0/5) – Budget pick, wired backup option.
Should I buy one, compare more, or wait for discounts?
Step 4: AI Negotiates or Optimizes

You say "Buy the Logitech one," the agent:

Checks for hidden discounts (e.g., applies coupon code AUTOBUY10).

Confirms:
"Applied a 10% off coupon! Final price: $40.50. Proceed?"
Step 5: Autonomous Checkout

After your approval, the AI:

Auto-fills your saved PhoenixCart shipping/payment details (securely).

Places the order. Sends confirmation:
"Order done! Tracking #12345. Expected delivery: Friday. I’ll alert you if delays occur."
Step 6: Post-Purchase Automation

Later, the agent might:

Track the shipment and notify you of delays.

Auto-initiate returns if the product is defective.

Reorder the same mouse when it predicts you’ll need a replacement (e.g., after 3 years).
