View product within Admin?

Just wondering if this is a function/feature that anyone uses? I stumble on it every now and again and always wonder why the link doesn't just load the product page on the shop side of the site. That is what I'm more interested in seeing. Does it appear the way I had intended. Did I mess it up or break something. I really don't care about how it appears on the admin side. Is this something you find useful or is it something Gary could get rid of if he wishes and perhaps have it link to the product on the shop side?

The view icon in Admin->Catalog->Product listing opens the shop side product page. At least in newer Phoenix versions.

Of course, it has to be live. There are various tweaks to let you preview products before they are live

Thanks Rainer. It doesn't in my older 1.0.8.21 shop but I'm glad to hear that it has been changed. It is one of those things I've wondered about for years but never got around to posting about it.

I do vaguely recall linking it to the Product Page, but you are correct, I think, that a product with inactive status...won't show. It should probably be looked at, perhaps a Modal, which displays the product page exactly as is (ie, the exact layout of the product page as in the Shop Side). That's certainly possible as I do something similar in the recent `Product Quick View` Addon - would definitely need extra fettling to deal with viewing an inactive product, but that should be doable.
