Hide Empty Product Category
Re: Hide Empty Product Category
There used to be an addon called 'Category manager' i think it was, which allowed you to disable categories and sub categories. Not too sure whether its available from this sites addons area though. I have it working on my 1.0.7.11 version.
Re: Hide Empty Product Category
Thanks for reply. Actually I wasn't looking to disable a category - just not list it in shop front if it's empty i.e no active products in it. Reason is that I have a promos catgegory with limited offers. When offers end, I disable the products. I don't want the category showing in categories list thereafter. This is similar to WordPress categories which do not display is they are empty.
After a very bad experience with addons a little while back, I'm very wary of addons these days. I can't afford to have my site fall over and having to unpick the damage to get it wrking again.

You are going to have to pay a developer to do it for you then if you don't want to use something that has been created and works from someone else. I always test addons first on a test site just to make sure that they work. if they do its then just a case of uploading them to the live site.ThatSweetShop wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 9:14 amThanks for reply. The addon I mentioned leaves the category in the back end and only does not show it in the front end. It does not remove anything from the admin, and products are still there. It just does not show the category on the store side until you activate it again. Its something similar to the red and green ticks and crosses when disabling and enabling products.

I'd have tried your suggestion to test that addon on a test installation but where could one locate the addon? Re: Hide Empty Product Category
It is not available in the Addons Library. Links to Addons published by service providers other than Phoenix Cart or Certified Developers will be removed.
Re: Hide Empty Product Category
This is one of the facilities that would preferably be available by default.
With the break away (release) from "that other version", many of the Addons could be classed as worthy and required default facilities. These would raise the phoenix to another level.
I know, understand and appreciate the effort put in by the coders and the model used. This isn't a criticism but an opinion offered because I really like this software but still feel the need to look at other options because of missing facilities.

Re: Hide Empty Product Category
You would override the category tree class with your own.
It is a no core code change (I think), but would require a developer to make it (as it would not be completely straightforward)... you might like to enquire here, getting a quotation, then post back in this thread to see if anyone would like to share the cost (or of course, if the quote is super low, you might just "do it" as nike would say). If you can get 3 or 4 of you willing to share, it would (likely) be the cost of a few cups of coffee each.
