Upgrading help... problem with language.php file

Post by Portman »

HI I am trying to bring my very outdated site up to date...

I am using the upgrade tool by @zipurman which I am finding very good.

I am currently trying to upgrade from 1.0.7.11 to 1.0.7.12 ... I thought I had gone through all of the conflicting files, but when I go to the site I get this error from the very start...

PHP Fatal error: Cannot declare class language, because the name is already in use in /home/.../includes/system/versioned/1.0.7.4/language.php on line 16

Any ideas as to what would be throwing up this error - I see that there is an updated langage.php file in /includes/system/versioned/1.0.7.other/1.0.7.12/ ... I thought that over-rode the file in 1.0.7.4

Thanks for any help

Temporarily (in case this is the wrong advice) delete the file from the includes/system/versioned/1.0.7.4/ folder. This may allow you to continue.

I have not used the upgrading tool, hence why I say temporarily delete that file. Zipurman may be along shortly to give better advice

Deleting the 1.0.7.4 version may simply give you a better error message. But as that's not nothing, it sounds worth doing.

The updater simply copies the source zip contents over top of the old site. It also (may) delete files if that is part of the update.

The version 1.0.7.12 update should be deleting the following files, but your site may have permissions that disallowed the change:

DELETE /admin/includes/classes/language.php
DELETE /includes/modules/boxes/templates/tpl_bm_whats_new.php

If you are using the updater I wrote, you need to make sure that the webserver user has r/w access to files and folders within your site.

Thanks everyone...

Deleting out the language file helped me find the problem... I have an addon that was directly referencing the language.php file in that folder.
