Title says it all really. Is anyone using Gary's old blog/news system that he released many years ago as a 28 days code on a phoenix site.
I want away of adding some news type articles to my website, but want to keep it simple. Things like a few images, a lot of text and links to products or categories. Pages will be found from links within product pages. I don't want a way for people to add comments and don't want pages listed anywhere (at least for now)
Is there something available or will it just be easier to create a load of new pages and add them to the website.
Any ideas welcome.

Used to use it but now replaced with InfoPages which is much simpler and they can be used to do everything you describe.

Not sure I understand you as creating a 'page' and creating an 'InfoPage' are different things.
Although there are 'pages' in core e.g. shipping.php, that are coded to show the 'InfoPage', it is not necessary to do so when creating new InfoPages.
There is a PRO addon that allows entry of Meta for SEO on InfoPages if that's your question.
There is also a PRO addon that creates links on product page to InfoPages assigned to that product (which is one way SE bots/crawlers find the pages when crawling your site).
There is also a PRO addon to allow InfoPages to be assigned to Folders.
So we created pages coded to show links to InfoPages that are assigned to a Folder to make 'Categories pages' to create an architecture for our information pages which suited our use case and similar to the architecture of the old 'blog' in a way.
The use of InfoPages is only limited by imagination.

Has anyone any links to pages that have been created using the Infopages system that are currently ranking well in the search engines, bringing in traffic, and also linking to various products within the website. I want to use this to drive traffic to the website and the product that the pages are linked to. I also want to link the products to the page as it will contain further information on the products and how they can be used.
My big concern with having to have lots of other addons to do one job is that should some future development stop this working more money will have to be thrown at it, and that could happen with any upgrade in the future and with lots of upgrades happening it could happen several times. I would leave it until development is finished, or at least more stable, but I cant ever see that happening.

The info pages system inbuilt into Phoenix was actually based on my much older "blog / news" addon...
