Customer Account Types

Post by LeeFoster »

In the near future I am going to be looking to add some functionality for vendors to log in and upload their own products, think etsy for example.

Before I get to that point I want to create an account type with the options being -

Customer
Vendor
Admin/Staff

Has anyone done anything similar to this?

As a follow on I'd like to link the front end account for admin to an admin login so that the user can just click a link and be logged into admin rather than having to go to the admin section and typing in a different login.

I have a project on my list that would allow for Admin user levels. My thoughts were more for staff levels than vendors. I wont be starting that project for a couple months as I am swamped at the moment, however, for you to offer admin access to vendors .... you'd also have to add logic:

- New products - force vendor to logged in vendor
- Edit/Delete products - limit to vendor's own products

The vendor/admin/staff are administrators, and customers are not. So to have the front login work as you suggest, you could just create a hook that on failed login, check for administrator that is a vendor and if the creds match, then forward to admin. That does take away from the security of the admin as bots could try logins and possibly gain access to your admin folder no matter what it is named. I'd suggest adding 2factor auth if you are doing that.

Only my 2 cents, happy to share ideas.

You can find MVS specifically at app.php/addons/paid_addon/multi_vendor_ ... %28mvs%29/

You can purchase it at https://www.oscaddons.com/en/other-deve ... -p-74.html (link from add-on page). There's also a contact link there.

It probably needs updated to work with the current version.
