Search Enhancements (Keywords)

Post by Philo2005 »

I sometimes check the "who is online" page in the admin section to see
whats going on in my shop.
Especially I am looking for the advanced_search_result.php entries
and the keyword user are looking for.

Sometime i wish to have a list of the searched item keywords
to have an idea what products I should add near the future within my shop.

In earlier osc days I was using an old addon (or similar)...
which solved that issue

What this did, is what I am looking for in Phoenix:

1) Automatic logging of all search terms used on your site.
2) Processing of logged search terms into total counts, with sorting by totals or by name.
3) not required
4) Words/phrases and their suggested replacements can be edited/deleted at any time via the admin section.
5) not required
6) Complete admin section to view and process logged search results.

Does anybody uses this or a similar feature in Phoenix today?

FWIW ...

Ten years ago (!), in the old forum, I posted a review of different search modules available for (then) osC-BS ...

https://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic ... nt-1747231

In it, I mentioned that SmartSuggest - Self-learning Ajax Search Suggestion v1.0.3 recorded the searched for terms.

I used this module on one of my live stores. After some years of use, I reviewed the 'searched for terms', and I was amazed! Plenty of hackers trying to hack the shop (to be expected, I guess), and many, MANY other searches were for the current year (don't ask, I have NO idea!). There was also no way to clean up the database of searched for terms ... I had to manually clean it up with phpMyAdmin.

I am currently using Twitter Typeahead Autocomplete Search v1.6 in my live shop. It's not without it's problems, though ...

( https://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic ... nt-1757718 )

I too would like to see a more comprehensive search module for Phoenix, allowing:

1) Searching products, categories, descriptions, and information pages,
2) A typeahead feature, and
3) A manageable database of stored searched for terms.

I believe all of this functionality exists in the form of addons.

Stored Searches
I remember a discussion thread I made to follow along the build of an addon to store searches, link searches to products and so on. Might have been a couple of years ago or so.

Found it: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2158

Perhaps PULSE ?
In recent versions of Phoenix there is something called Pulse Analytics. If you want a simple "what do people search for", make a Search Pulse ?

Typeahead
A modern version exists that was made sometime in the last year. I believe this version allows the possibility to search info-pages, categories and products. This was a hardcore coding project that a handful of shopowners each put in a coffee or two to get it done - one of the first addons successfully made in that way.

Wow, what a selection!
I need to think about that more carefully.
Thank you for your feedbacks
