The backend of a sale...what do you do?

Post by burt »

You've just received notification of a sale via your Phoenix.

What next steps do you take until the point of putting the item into the post.

What could Phoenix do to make those steps easier/better/whatever.

Thanks in advance for any ideas comments and suggestions.

This what we do:

1 - print a Working note of the order
2 - Set order status to Processing Order
3 - pick the items
4 - if complete - set order status to Picking
4A - If not complete - Order items at suppliers and scan incoming items
5 - If complete - Scan the items - set order status to Ready for shipping
6 - print packaging slip and pack the items
7 - create invoice
8 - repeat for different orders
9 - export the data (name - address - type of shipment - etc) of completed orders to shipping company and print labels
10 - Put shipping labels on boxes
11 - import tracking numbers
12 - mail customers to update their order has been shipped and set order status to Shipped - attach invoice

Statusses are all set automatically - all in Phoenix (old osc) - no external software or Api-s

Could any of that be made easier by Phoenix (core/addon) etc?

Two steps covered/simplified by my tracking addon:
1. Entering tracking number in Orders -> Edit -> Order History Tab: When saved, status is auto switched to "prepared for shipping" or "shipped" or whatever is configured in the addon settings.
2. It also forces Status update e-mail to be sent with tracking info/link.

Yes - EG at least by exporting shipping data - and importing tracking data. And maybe scanning.

But what we did is building software to optimise processes (order fulfillment / purchasing / invoicing accounting) and make fail-save solutions by scanning each product in logistics. I think not a core topic and maybe even to much for addons. I don not expect this from Phoenix - allthough it should be possible ..

@azpro many thanks for replying. It's always good to hear from shopowners.

I wonder if any of the Batch Action mods could help to speed things up?
