I'd like to suggest something practical that I believe will help increase confidence in your products and, ultimately, sales. That is: using YouTube videos on your product pages.

This isn’t about being flashy or modern for the sake of it. It's about helping customers feel more certain before they click "buy". Here’s why I believe it matters, and some ideas for Videos.

1. Showing the Product Properly - Not Just in Photos

Photos are useful - but they are `still images`. A video can show (eg):
  • How shoes move when someone walks
  • How a hat actually sits on a head
  • How fabric hangs or stretches
  • How something looks in normal lighting
Customers often hesitate because they can't quite picture it.
Video removes some of that uncertainty.

2. Installation or Setup Videos Reduce Problems

If your product needs fitting, assembling, or adjusting, a short video can (eg):
  • Prevent mistakes
  • Reduce returns
  • Reduce support messages
  • Make customers feel more confident
Many people would rather watch two minutes of video than read instructions.

3. Answering Questions Before They're Asked

Videos can cover common concerns (eg):
  • How to choose the correct size
  • Differences between two similar products
  • How durable something is
  • What materials feel like in real life
When customers feel informed, they are likely more comfortable buying.

4. Customer Testimonials Build Trust

A real person speaking on camera often feels more trustworthy than written reviews alone. It shows:
  • The product is real
  • The business is real
  • People are genuinely satisfied
Trust is one of the biggest factors in online sales.

5. Unboxing and First Impressions

Videos showing:
  • How the product arrives
  • What’s included
  • The packaging quality
can help make customers feel reassured before they even order.

Why Use YouTube Specifically?

There are practical reasons:
  • It's free to host videos
  • It doesn’t slow your shop down
  • Videos can appear in Google searches
  • Customers might discover your products through YouTube
In Plain Terms Video helps to:
  1. Reduce hesitation
  2. Reduce returns
  3. Reduce questions
  4. Increase confidence
  5. Increase perceived value
It doesn’t replace your product descriptions. It strengthens them.

If you're serious about improving conversion and building trust, video is one of the most effective tools available - even if the videos are simple and filmed on a phone.

Quite often, we will even send a link to one of our videos in an email to explain how to do something; most of our videos are how-to.
We create the videos using cheap equipment, which was a mobile phone, but now use an OSBOT Meet 2 camera
each video ... clients love them, and we have definitely made sales on the back of them

For outdoor decor, I think people don't care about the technical specs as much as they care about the vibe. One 15-second video of your product looking cozy in a backyard at sunset is worth more than a thousand words of 'high-quality' description text.

While product videos drive direct conversions, non-product videos are equally important for an ecommerce site - they build trust, reduce friction, and nurture long-term customer relationships. Here’s how they might help:

Educational / How‑To Videos

Examples: "How to choose the right size", "Care instructions for wool sweaters", "How to assemble our desk”

- Reduce returns & support tickets - Answer common pre‑purchase or post‑purchase questions before customers ask.
- Increase average order value - A video on “matching accessories” can bundle products.
- Build authority - Position your brand as helpful, not just transactional.

Brand Story & Behind the Scenes

Examples: "Our sustainable sourcing", "Meet the founder", "How we package orders"

- Emotional connection - Customers buy from brands they feel aligned with. Stories increase loyalty and repeat purchases.
- Differentiation - Compete on values (ethics, quality, heritage) not just price.
- Trust - Transparency about production, materials, or team builds credibility.

Customer Testimonials & Case Studies

Examples: "How this yoga mat survived 200 classes", "Real customer unboxing & review"

- Social proof - More persuasive than written reviews. Seeing a real person’s genuine reaction eliminates skepticism.
- Overcomes objections - A testimonial video can directly address “I thought it might be too small” or “I was worried it wouldn’t last.”

FAQs & Troubleshooting

Examples: "Our return policy explained", "How to reset your password", "What to do if your shipment is delayed"

- Reduce customer service load - A single 60‑second video can replace dozens of support emails.
- Improve post‑purchase experience - Happy post‑purchase customers leave better reviews and buy again.

Culture & Team Videos

Examples: "Day in the life of our packer", "Why we donate 5% to charity"

- Humanize the brand - People want to buy from people. Team videos create warmth and relate-ability.
- Recruiting & brand pride - Indirectly attracts better talent and partners, which improves your business long‑term.

Trend / Educational Content (Blog‑style)

Examples: "Top 5 summer trends", "How to tie an Oxford Knot", "The science behind moisture‑wicking fabric"

- SEO & organic traffic - Non‑product videos rank for informational searches (e.g., “how to clean leather boots”), bringing new visitors into your funnel.
- Top‑of‑funnel awareness - Capture people before they're ready to buy, then re-target them.

Livestream Shopping (Non‑product focused)

Examples: "Q&A with our designer", "Warehouse tour & sale preview"

- Community building - Real‑time interaction creates urgency and belonging.
- Data collection - Chat questions reveal exactly what customers care about.
