Also think it should allways be a canonical. Otherwise Google Search Console will complain - and pick it's own preferred page / skip potential pages. In that sense it's more about controlling the pages.

But - I am not an expert on Google (who is these past 10 years or so ) - This is more an opinion based on experience.

I have asked 3 lots of AI (Chatgpt, Deepseek and Perplexity) and they are all saying that the sitemap should contain the URLs to pages that you want to be listed. Therefore if shopowner wants the `view=all` to be listed, that is what should be in the sitemap.

In Phoenix, `view=all` is the default canonical for;
index.php -> cPath
index.php -> manufacturers_id
specials.php

It means this addon should be updated, I guess.

In my opinion, the only issue with View-all is the size of the page it creates. It's fine if it's just a few pages combined, but if the products are in the thousands, then the page takes longer to load, causing its own seo issue. Load time is such an important factor now.

I currently have new products canonical to view-all, but i forgot about a rewrite i have put in when i updated to a newer version of Phoenix and went from multiple languages to just one, So its 301 to products_new.php, right this minute google seems happy with that, certainly not by intention, but just hanging back for a minute to see how it transpires. maybe if the view all had a limit on the number of products it showed, view-all-almost if you like, babling now, wish i did know the best way forward, but I dont, and this is just a discussion.

A far better way would be to have the set of pages self-canonical, but this would cause its own issues with a dynamically produced list that could be sorted in different ways, among other problems, so probably a non-starter.

Hi, I am using the most recent version of Burt's XML Sitemaps on Phoenix 1.1.0.6. Although I have no problem reading it Google gets a 403 Error and says it can not fetch because of it. Have tried permissions 604 and 704 with no results. What could be wrong please?

Some things to check;

1. Check if your robots.txt file is blocking Googlebot <--- site level
2. Check if Googlebot is being denied in htaccess <--- site level
3. MIght be an IP based restriction, blocking Googlebot <--- hosting level
4. MIght be your server blocking Googlebot via User Agent <--- hosting level

If you can see it in a browser...that's usually a good sign.

Found it... needed 755 permissions.
