Post-purchase Upsells

Could we plug in Post Purchase upselling to our Queued Emails system?
IE this is after the order is made, but before it is in the customers hands..

For example, a couple of hours after an order is placed, automatically send an email showing a few upsells.
Maybe even have a chain of emails; 2 hours, 5 days, 1 month.

EG (pls don't get wrapped up in timings etc, this is just an example of my thoughts);
Order: Camera
2 Hrs (email): Need this Giftwrapped?
24Hrs (email); SD Card, Camera Bag etc

If it reused data the shopowner has already configured, it's no extra work ...
and could help increase repeat sales.

Worth exploring? Is there a better approach?
Am I over-simplifying?
