Have fun.
Changes needed in Phoenix?
What do we need to change in Phoenix codebase to allow shopowners to comply?
Discuss.

I was curious and found this page that makes it a bit clearer as to what the obligations of businesses are. The Q&A that you can download from there, is particularly interesting.

All I see for online marketplaces (i.e. Phoenix software) is the ability to post a contact for customers and regulators. The same contact for both. Since we have a footer module for that, I think we're done at the software level. Anyone disagree?

Manufacturers Contact Details must be shown per product;
Postal Address
Email Address
This is `addressed` in 1.0.9.10

Amazon, Miravia (Alibaba) and probably others included a new product field to flag products save or not.
Regarding the question if to implement this in online stores, I got the following answer from ChatGPT:
Should Online Shops Include a "Dangerous Product" Flag?
Although the GPSR does not explicitly mandate this feature, it might be a good practice to enhance compliance and consumer trust. Here's why:
Proactive Compliance: Indicating a product's safety status (e.g., highlighting recalls or known risks) can demonstrate proactive adherence to GPSR.
Consumer Awareness: Consumers are empowered to make informed decisions if potential hazards are clearly flagged.
Risk Communication: For products with inherent risks (like chemicals, electrical items, or tools), such a flag could help communicate these effectively.
How to Implement This:
Admin-Only Field: Create a back-end field in the product management system where administrators can flag a product as potentially unsafe or recall-affected.
Front-End Display: If flagged, display a warning banner or message on the product page. For example:
"Important: This product has been flagged for potential safety risks. Please read the safety information provided."
"This product is subject to a recall. Learn more." (with a link to recall details).
Automation with EU Databases: Connect the system to relevant EU safety databases (e.g., the RAPEX database) to automatically flag products identified as dangerous.
So maybe it might be useful to add such a product field and a display pi module for the product page.

Sounds like a good idea.

We looked into these new rules and thought that the hardest, and costliest, part was finding a Responsible Person within the EU or Norther Ireland. There were several companies offering a service but nothing that seemed to be suitable for a small business like ours that sold very low quantities of products into the EU.
Traceability is a great concern also as we buy lots of component parts from several suppliers. Most do supply batch numbers which can be added to the sold products, how many customers would keep that information if we supplied it to them. This would mean that all batch numbers would need to kept in with the orders as well as any safety documentation applicable at the time of the sale. These documents may change over time and be different from different suppliers unless I am misunderstanding the rules.
There is very little information available on the UK's FSB website. No idea why.
In EBay we just removed shipping options for the EU which was the easy option.

Circling back on this.
Manufacturers postal address and email address are added to core.
What else needs doing for next release of Phoenix?
1. Flag: is Manufacturer EU based Yes/No
2. More inputs for "EU Importer" [Name, Address, Email]?
I suppose we need a Content Module showing all this data;
Manufacturers Name & Address & Email (if set & applies to product being looked at shop-side)
Show if this Manufactuer is EU based (ditto)
Importers Name & Address & Email (ditto)
Let's try to get a consensus on this, so work can commence!
This is important to get done ASAP, to the best of the groups knowledge.
Whatever is made can always be amended to better suit GPSR needs as the community learns more.
But we need to get something in place.
