I wondered what happened to open source shopping carts, glad to have found you have risen again and made a nice looking cart.

Congrats to the team for the perseverance and nice result !

Well, it is 6 years now since my parents retired and the cookware shop closed.
I have gone back into software development full time, currently looking around , deciding on what I want to do/learn next.
Thus I was wondering if AI made it into the webshop code base yet ,,,

This would make for an intersting topic and I haven't seen any discussion about it yet. How do you see AI being put to use in e-commerce software?

I asked chatgpt, link below

It is a rather long list, but it gives a decent idea what is possible, though some things are relatively easy, while other items will require some serious investment.
Do note there are also opensource options, and the space is moving very rapidly

We have tried using AI to create articles, product descriptions and all sort of other things, and have been pleasantly surprised by some of the results. We have run some of our already good category heading text through AI rewriters and the results have been good. I added lots of text as I wanted an article to send to the specialist magazines about a new product we released. From a few short keywords it produced a long article, most of which made sense. We had a great response from them and the public. This does sort of prove that AI does sort of work. We are going to try creating a specific product help page using AI just to see what it comes up with.

On the other hand some of them have been truly horrendous and sound as if they have been written by a bot and not a human. We could not even make sense of some of them.

I think as things will get better over time but for now you have to read and re read the results just to make sure that they are really what you want to get across to the public.

Generally speaking, using AI as a junior assistant creating first drafts and using your own judgement and expertise seems to work well.
I am also pleasantly surprised at the ease of switching languages mid chat and AI not being picky about spelling in my questions.
I use it for quick scripts and analist work, creating user stories, BDD test scenarios, it is also pretty good at coming up with test cases and best practices for test automation given the vast body of test scripts available on github.

Very interesting...and a long list indeed. Both you and Steve have peaked my interest so I set up an account and will play around with it a bit. It will be interesting to see how useful it can be especially in a niche market like the one I'm in.

I'm looking for tires at the moment and it gave me a somewhat dated recommendation but pointed out that the data it was based on had not been updated since January 2022.

With Open AI, you can get a -4gpt account for $20 usd. You can install plugins to do just about anything such as write code, describe what's on an image, crawl links etc.
