We have been thinking about these latest regulations from the EU and have finally decided to stop shipping to countries within the EU. It just isn't practical or cost effective for the number of orders that we send there, to comply with the regulations. We could add in the data required to sections of the website and admin and we could enter batch numbers from suppliers if we wished.
Do people think we are approaching this in the correct way.
Our first job is to remove the EU countries from the Countries list to stop customers creating accounts.
Second - to stop those that already have accounts from buying remove the countries from the international shipping module which is a copy and reworked version of the core Zones file.
Thirdly - We need an explanation message somewhere on the account creation page and the shipping page which is not that hard to achieve and is easily done.
Can anyone see anything wrong with this approach, or find a flaw in the plan.

Re: International shipping question and GPSR
I'd probably also place a Hook in the checkout pipeline to look at customers country and bounce them back to shopping_cart.php maybe with a messageStack message if they are located at a country you don't want to ship to.
