Roll back some recent cosmetic changes - what's your thoughts

Post by burt »

A couple of cosmetic changes were made that have proved quite unpopular. I'm considering doing a roll-back;

1. The Navbar Search Box
- this was updated to a modal popup

99% of feedback I get on this, people hate it.

2. Introduction of a second Horizontal Navbar
- with categories and manufacturer

Again, overwhelming feedback that people hate having two navbars

Does anyone have thoughts ? Be as critical as you like, I don't mind. I'll take it in the spirit it's intended

I understand that Phoenix as a whole could do with a cosmetic makeover, this is the start of that makeover.

Definately get rid, it is my biggest peeve and change it immediately lol

My preference for the second navbar would be to use the mega menu with a few configuration changes such as the ability to select which categories are displayed before the 'more' dropdown and a simple sort alphabetically instead of sort order

Hate is a strong word, but so as it was, it was good..

OK, I've decided to crack on with this - in the form of a new template.
Doing it as a template will allow easier separation of style and function.

I'm taking inspiration from this recent-ish thread here and the excellent phoenix demo here from @tessthepup.

Any advice, ideas anyone has ... I'd be glad to hear it.
Mistakes were made in the last mini makeover, let's correct those mistakes together.

Hi dear;
Changes as a template would be cool,
Also which mega menu is used on the demo link, that seems Awesome with 2 tier subcategories;
Also can it in-cooperate pics?
Thank you in advance;
Warm Regds./

I too do not like the modal popup.

Gary I"m not sure where you might be at with developing a new template but I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Phoenix and in doing so wondered if those banner images could be improved. In that regard I asked Gemini for a couple of suggestions...I think these are a bit better but could be improved as well. In any case and for what it is worth I thought I'd pass them along to you, so here they are.

I like the first one the best but I think it still needs work.

@burt To be honest I like them all so maybe a mix of both would be good and fresh (although that tractor looks like a John Deere and I am a Massey man myself :lol: )
