Install Configuration on Local PC
Install Configuration on Local PC
Hello! I've downloaded your store app but want to test it on my local machine before I install to my website hosting account. Please can you tell me what settings/paths do I need to use in my configuration files for it to work?

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
Hello, Phoenix setup on local machine depends on which server environment you’re running on your PC. Could you let me know which one you're using? Common options include:
XAMPP (Windows/macOS)
WAMP (Windows)
MAMP (macOS/Windows)
Laragon
Once you share that, a user of whichever one might be able to help a bit more.
Note that Phoenix's installer usually auto-detects and writes these for you, as part of the installation process which should work even on local machine.

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
You should be able to hit
localhost/phoenix/install/
and follow the steps.
I don't use Uniserver, so if anything untoward happens, post the full error message from the Uniserver Error Log

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
I run install as normal on localhost/phoenix/install/ but after collecting the store information, database etc, the install fails at http://localhost/phoenix/install/install.php?step=4
I examine my includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files but there are no values written into them.
What I need is someone's example of what is in these files on a local install so I can manually add whatever is needed in these files.

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
What is the exact nature of the error. Get this from Uniserver Error Log.
Knowing that, and assuming it can be solved, this thread becomes helpful for future users as well as you now.

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
Thanks to ChatGPT I got my issue resolved. For anyone who has this issue in the future, you need to amend you config files as follows:
1/ includes/configure.php
<?php
// set the level of error reporting
error_reporting(E_ALL);
const HTTP_SERVER = 'http://localhost';
const DIR_WS_CATALOG = '/phoenix/';
const COOKIE_OPTIONS = [
'lifetime' => 0,
'domain' => '',
'path' => '/',
'samesite' => 'Lax',
];
// filesystem path (NOT URL)
const DIR_FS_CATALOG = 'D:/UniServer/www/phoenix/';
date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London');
// database
const DB_SERVER = 'localhost';
const DB_SERVER_USERNAME = 'root';
const DB_SERVER_PASSWORD = 'root';
const DB_DATABASE = 'phoenix';
2. admin/includes/configure.php
<?php
// set the level of error reporting
error_reporting(E_ALL);
const HTTP_SERVER = 'http://localhost';
const HTTPS_SERVER = 'http://localhost';
const ENABLE_SSL = false;
const DIR_WS_ADMIN = '/phoenix/admin/';
const DIR_WS_CATALOG = '/phoenix/';
const COOKIE_OPTIONS = [
'lifetime' => 0,
'domain' => '',
'path' => '/',
'samesite' => 'Lax',
];
const DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT = 'D:/UniServer/www/phoenix/';
const DIR_FS_ADMIN = 'D:/UniServer/www/phoenix/admin/';
const DIR_FS_BACKUP = 'D:/UniServer/www/phoenix/admin/backups/';
const DIR_FS_CATALOG = 'D:/UniServer/www/phoenix/';

date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London');
// database
const DB_SERVER = 'localhost';
const DB_SERVER_USERNAME = 'root';
const DB_SERVER_PASSWORD = 'root';
const DB_DATABASE = 'phoenix';

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
Chapeau! Thank you for posting that. If you do have time to find the exact error in the log it would help as you may have found a bug in the installation procedure. If there's a bug, I'd like to try to fix it so that future users wont go through the same rigmarole you had this morning.

Re: Install Configuration on Local PC
Following some debugging using AI, I dtermined that the installation was failing at http://localhost/phoenix/install/install.php?step=4 because of a PHP version incompatibility. So, I just selected a different PHP version in my UniServer PHP selector and everything ran smoothly after that.
