Must Have Tools

FileZilla is free to download and use at the following link:

https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

Using FTP software is much quicker than using your host server control panel to transfer files between your computer and the server.

Open the software and enter the following details to connect to your host server.

Host FTP Server Address, FTP Server User Name, FTP Server Password

After connecting with Filezilla for example you will see something like this:

Filezilla.png

  • In right window pane, this is the host server, double click htdocs to open root folder/directory (this where your shop is - see NOTE below) - dependent on server may be named public_html or httpdocs
    • NOTE: If your shop is in the root folder/directory, the website home page will show as yoursite.com/index.php in the web browser.
    • Some users might have their shop in a sub-folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/yoursubdirectory/index.php in the web browser.
  • In left window pane, this is your local computer, navigate to folders/directories and files.
  • Right click and click Upload to transfer folders/directories or files from your computer to the host server.
  • FTP software will indicate progress..

When the FTP software indicates the upload is complete, proceed to the next step.
