The Favicon is the small icon that shows in the browser tab that is showing the web page title - like this page:

Adding a Favicon helps your online shop look professional and creates brand awareness.

From a customer's point of view it makes the browser tab with your shop stand out against any others open and also makes your shop more visible in the customer’s list of bookmarked sites.

  • Create an image e.g. from your logo but simpler the better - the Favicon will end up only 16 pixels x 16 pixels so much detail will be lost.
  • Use GIMP to resize the image to 16 x 16 pixels and save the image as favicon.ico - it must be that name and file type.
  • Alternatively, internet search for a free favicon generator that will convert the image.
  • Upload the favicon.ico file to the root (i.e. the folder/directory that contains all the shop files) of your shop on the host server - done.
