From admin go to Configuration → Download to see this:

This enables the shop to sell downloadable digital products.


Enable download

  • Click it in the list to select it.
  • Click it again to edit.
  • Change the setting to true
  • Click Save

Download by redirect

  • Click it in the list to select it.
  • Click it again to edit.
  • Change the setting to true
  • Click Save

Expiry delay (days)

  • Click it in the list to select it.
  • Click it again to edit.
  • Change the setting as required.
  • Click Save

Maximum number of downloads

  • Click it in the list to select it.
  • Click it again to edit.
  • Change the setting as required
  • Click Save

  • When you have created your digital product, name it using lowercase and no spaces.
  • Compress it into a zipped folder.
    • Using Windows, right click on the file.
    • In the popup menu, go to and click Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  • Upload the zipped folder to the download folder/directory (found in the top htdocs directory) on the host server using FTP software - see FileZilla
  • Ensure the file permission settings for the download folder/directory are set to 0755
    • This means search engines will not find your download and the public can not access them for free.
  • Ensure the file permission settings for the pub folder/directory are set to 0777
    • The setting Download by redirect passes the file from download to pub so it can be downloaded but adds a random folder name so it can not be found by public search.
    • File permissions can be changed using FileZilla by right clicking on the folder/directory and clicking File permissions... in the popup menu.

  • Create the new product in your shop in Catalog → Categories/Products - see Categories/Products
    • Ensure to set the Products Weight to 0
  • Go to Catalog → Products Attributes to see this:

  • Product Options
    • Enter Download in the Option Name input box next to en: (english)
    • Click Insert
  • Option Values
    • Choose Download from the Option Name pull down menu.
  • Enter the file type of your download e.g. PDF in the Option Value input box next to en: (english)
  • Click Insert
  • Repeat if you have more than one file type option.
  • Product Attributes

    • Choose the download product name from the Product Name pull down menu.
    • Choose Download from the Option Name pull down menu.
    • Choose the file type e.g. PDF from the Option Value pull down menu.
    • Enter the exact file name of the zipped folder, including the .zip file extension in the Filename: input box.
    • The Expiry delay (days) and Maximum number of downloads can be changed from the defaults already set if required.
    • Click Insert
