From admin go to Tools → Send Email to see this:

• A simple tool to send email to customers.
  • Select a customer from the Customer: drop down menu.
  • The email address defined in Configuration → My Store is preset in the From: input box but can be changed if required.
  • Enter a Subject:
  • Enter a Message:
  • Click Preview
  • Click Send Email
