How to upgrade an old oscommerce website to Phoenix
If you are running an old version of oscommerce you really need to upgrade it to Phoenix - it is modular, running on Bootstrap 4 and PHP 7.3. Old versions of osCommerce are no longer supported, and many of them run on outdated, slower, versions of PHP.
Follow these steps to make the upgrade easy.
- Install Phoenix into a new directory/folder on your current website - see How to Create a Test Shop for instructions.
- In this case exclude the sample data.
- Transfer data from your old database to the new database - see phpMyAdmin.
- Take the time to make sure the structure of the database you are copying is the same as the destination before you copy.
- Do not copy the tables configuration and configuration_group.
- When your new Phoenix shop is ready, choose a quiet time for your shop or install a html landing index page to notify customers - delete all files from htdocs - change configure files in Phoenix shop to their new root/path - copy all files from the sub-directory up to htdocs.
- Check for new modules to replace your old ones - many have been updated to run on Phoenix with no core code change.
