How to Install

NEW INSTALLATION OF PHOENIX

This how we have installed Phoenix on our host server with success

Some actions will depend on host server - host servers may slightly differ

You will need (freely available):

FTP (file transfer) software to connect to your host server and transfer files between your computer and the host server e.g. Filezilla

File editing software to edit .php files e.g. Sublime Text or Visual Studio Code

BEFORE INSTALLATION

1. Create a folder/directory for all "website documents" - name it, save it and save a back up

2. Create a "text document" file to save username/passwords etc. and log website actions - save it in the "website documents" folder/directory

3. Create domain name, host account, SSL certificate - save host name, username and password to "text document"

4. Create a database in host server account - save database name, username and password to "text document"

5. Download file transfer (FTP) software - e.g. Filezilla

6. Download file editing software - e.g. Sublime Text or Visual Studio Code

7. Download web browsing software - e.g. Chrome

8. Download Phoenix (zipped folder/directory) ensure you have the latest version

9. Copy Phoenix zipped folder/directory to "website documents"

10. Unzip Phoenix zipped folder/directory to "website documents"

11. Open and read "README" file carefully

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Ensure domain name, host account and SSL certificate have been created - check with host server providers before proceeding

NOTE: This procedure installs Phoenix in the root folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/index.php in the web browser

NOTE: Some users may wish to install in a sub-folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/subdirectory/index.php in the web browser - if this is required a sub-folder/directory must be created, named and opened before step 14. below

12. Open Filezilla - connect to host server using host name, username, password - appears in right window pane "Remote site:"

13. In "Remote site" open root folder/directory "htdocs" - dependent on server may be named "public_html" or "httpdocs"

14. In left window pane "Local site:" navigate to and open unzipped Phoenix folder/directory

15. Lasso (hold down left mouse click and drag cursor) to select all folders and files in unzipped Phoenix folder/directory

16. Drag and drop all files into "htdocs" in "Remote site:" to transfer all files to host server

17. Filezilla will indicate progress at the bottom of screen - it can take several minutes to complete transfer

Relax with a cup of tea and slow, deep breathing

18. Open web browsing software - enter the web address of your website in the address bar - e.g yoursite.com

19. The first Phoenix installation "Welcome" page will open - click "Start the installation procedure"

20. The second Phoenix installation page will open - complete the form

21. For Database Server enter localhost - enter database username, password and database name - choose Import sample data so sample products will show in your shop - they can easily be removed later - click continue

22. The third Phoenix installation page will open - this will automatically show your website address and root - save them to "text document" - click continue

23. The fourth Phoenix installation page will open - enter the email address customers will see - create Administrator Username and Password - enter a secure/random name for Administration Directory Name - select a Time Zone

24. Save Administrator Username and Password to "text document" - click continue

25. The final Phoenix installation "Finished" page will open

Two buttons will show on this page - one takes you to the Administration index page where you will need your Administrator Username and Password, this is the "Back Office" or "back end" of your website not visible or accessible to the public - the other button takes you to the Catalog index page, this is the "Shop" or "front end" of your website visible and accessible to the public
