NEW INSTALLATION OF CE PHOENIX

This how we have installed CE Phoenix on our host server with success.
Some actions will depend on host server - host servers may slightly differ.

You will need some software freely available to download from the internet :

FTP (file transfer) software to connect to your host server and transfer files between your computer and your host server.
File editing software to edit .php files.

See Must Have Tools for details.

INSTALL

NOTE: Ensure domain name, host account, SSL certificate and database have been created.

Open FTP software e.g. FileZilla - connect to host server using FTP Server Address, FTP Username and FTP Password - ask your host server if you cannot find these details in your account
After connecting with Filezilla for example you will see this:

In right window pane, this is the host server, double click htdocs to open root folder/directory - dependent on server may be named public_html or httpdocs
- NOTE: This procedure installs Phoenix in the root folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/index.php in the web browser.
- Some users may wish to install in a sub-folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/yoursubdirectory/index.php in the web browser.
- If this is required a sub-folder/directory must be created in htdocs, named and opened before the next step.
In left window pane, this is your local computer, navigate to and open the unzipped/extracted Phoenix folder/directory.
Select all folders and files in unzipped Phoenix folder/directory. Ensure you have them all selected and have not missed any.
Right click and click Upload to transfer all files from your computer to the host server.
FTP software will indicate progress - it can take several minutes to complete transfer.

Open web browsing software - enter the web address of your website in the address bar - e.g yoursite.com

The first CE Phoenix installation Welcome page will open - you will see this:

Ensure all Server Capabilities are checked with a green thumbs up to proceed. If not, contact your host server.
Click Start the installation procedure

Complete the form.
For Database Server enter the default of localhost which is most commonly used by hosts otherwise your host will provide the correct value if the default is incorrect.
Enter the Database Username, Password and Database Name that were created when the database was created.
Choose Import Sample Datato install sample products which can be removed later. This is useful for first time users to see how the shop displays and works.
Click Continue To Step 2

It will automatically show your website address (WWW Address) - check the address and change the http to https if you have already created a SSL certificate.
It will also show the path to your website on the host server (Webserver Root Directory) - save this to text document.
Click Continue To Step 3

Enter your Store Name - customers will see this but can be changed at any time.
Enter your Store Owner Name - customers will see this but can be changed at any time.
Enter your Store Owner E-Mail Address - this will be used in emails but can be changed at any time.
Create Administrator Username and Administrator Password - these will used to securely log in to the administration section of the website not accessible to the public - save these.
Enter a secure/random name for Administration Directory Name - save this to text document.
Select a Time Zone
Click Continue To Step 4

Three buttons will show on this page.
- Administration Tool (Backend) takes you to the Admin of your website, it is not visible or accessible to the public, you will need your administrator username and password to access.
- Online Store (Frontend) takes you to the Catalog index page also known as the Shop, this is visible and accessible to the public.
- Phoenix Club takes you to the support forum where you can join the supporter's club for club membership benefits such as free add-ons to extend the functionality of your shop.

Before anything else, click the Administration Tool (Backend) button to go to admin to secure the website in the next step.
