NEW INSTALLATION OF PHOENIX

This how we have installed Phoenix on our host server with success.
Some actions will depend on host server - host servers may slightly differ.

You will need some software freely available to download from the internet :

  • FTP (file transfer) software to connect to your host server and transfer files between your computer and your host server.
  • File editing software to edit .php files.

See Must Have Tools for details.

INSTALL

NOTE: Ensure domain name, host account, SSL certificate and database have been created.

  • Open FTP software - connect to host server using FTP Server Address, FTP Username and FTP Password - ask your host server if you cannot find these details in your account
  • After connecting, the folder/directory on the host server, where your website will be stored, will appear in bottom right window pane - for example, using Filezilla, you will see this:

Filezilla.png

  • In right window pane, this is the host server, double click htdocs to open root folder/directory - dependent on server may be named public_html or httpdocs
    • NOTE: This procedure installs Phoenix in the root folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/index.php in the web browser.
    • Some users may wish to install in a sub-folder/directory so the website home page will show as yoursite.com/subdirectory/index.php in the web browser.
    • If this is required a sub-folder/directory must be created in htdocs, named and opened before the next step.
  • In left window pane, this is your computer, navigate to and open unzipped Phoenix folder/directory.
  • Lasso (hold down left mouse click and drag cursor) to select all folders and files in unzipped Phoenix folder/directory. Ensure you have them all selected and have not missed any.
  • Drag and drop all files from the left window pane into the right window pane to transfer all files from your computer to host server.
  • FTP software will indicate progress - it can take several minutes to complete transfer.
  • Open web browsing software - enter the web address of your website in the address bar - e.g yoursite.com
  • The first Phoenix installation Welcome page will open - you will see this:

  • Choose Import Sample Data so sample products will show in your shop - it will be useful and they can easily be removed later.
  • Click Continue To Step 2
  • The next Phoenix installation page will open - you will see this:

Install3.jpg

  • It will automatically show your website address (WWW Address) - check the address and change the http to https if you have already created a SSL certificate.
  • It will also show the path to your website on the host server (Webserver Root Directory) - save this to text document.
  • Click Continue To Step 3
  • The next Phoenix installation page will open - you will see this:

  • Enter the email address customers will see - this can be changed at a later date.
  • Create Administrator Username and Password - save these to text document.

  • Two buttons will show on this page.
    • Online Store (Frontend) takes you to the Catalog index page also known as the Shop, this is visible and accessible to the public.
    • Administration Tool (Backend) where you will need your administrator username and password, takes you to the Admin of your website, it is not visible or accessible to the public.

  • Have a look around the default shop and you will see that everything is already working.
  • You can even make a test purchase to become familiar with the process.
